Rachel Ruth Ruzesky
Owner & Operator
Rachel is the proud owner of The Happy Ruth Ranch and the mother of Natalie Ruth, who was born prematurely at 24 weeks and later diagnosed with autism. Rachel has dedicated herself to learning everything she can about autism, participating in numerous autism-affirming courses and becoming certified in The Low Arousal Approach. She has also worked with occupational therapists and behavior consultants to ensure that every lesson is uniquely therapeutic.
Rachel’s journey into horsemanship began when Natalie developed a deep love for horses at age 3. The bond between Natalie and her first pony, Charlie Popcorn, has been life-changing for both of them. Charlie has played a key role in helping Natalie regulate her sensory system during moments of overwhelm. This experience inspired Rachel to create The Happy Ruth Ranch, with the goal of sharing the therapeutic power of horses with others.
At The Happy Ruth Ranch, we believe in the healing power of horses. Rachel often says, "When you’re on a horse, you can’t think of anything else. All the worries and stresses go away."
It’s never too late to start riding, and Rachel encourages adults to pursue their equestrian dreams, too.Brad Whittaker
Head Coach
Brad is a second-generation horse trainer with over 35 years of experience in horse training and riding. He began riding at age four and started training horses at 15. Brad has extensive knowledge in a variety of disciplines, including roping, cutting, driving, and penning.
Brad has been coaching in the Okanagan for 8 years, helping students of all ages—from 5 to 60—reach their equestrian goals. His coaching philosophy is tailored to each individual, ensuring that every lesson is customized to meet the unique needs of the rider.
Many of Brad’s students have gone on to win championships, but he believes the most important thing is to enjoy the process of learning and growing with horses.

Natalie
Natalie is the heart and inspiration behind The Happy Ruth Ranch. Fun-loving, joyful, and deeply connected to animals, she brings a light to this property that everyone feels the moment they arrive. Her love for goats and ponies, and her love for animals helped shape everything this ranch has become.
This ranch is Natalie’s home. It is her sanctuary, her classroom, and her safe place. Every program, policy, and event is built around protecting that foundation. Rachel prioritizes Natalie’s needs above all else. If something does not support Natalie’s well-being, peace, and growth, it simply does not happen here.
Natalie generously shares her space with every child and family who visits. In doing so, she has helped create a community where other children, especially autistic children, feel safe to be themselves.
The Happy Ruth Ranch exists because of her, and it continues to grow with her at its center.
